CROWN POINT, IN
The Wizard of Oz - The MUSICAL!!
Monday, January 5th @ 7pm
Tuesday, January 6th @ 7pm

Directed by Nick Thomas

Auditions will be held at: First United Methodist Church 352 S Main St Crown Point, IN

Production Dates: April 17-18, 24-26, 2009

Synopsis: Tightly based on the 1939 classic musical film. (Not the rocket ship version!) The RSC version is a more technically complex production and uses as much of the aura of the film as is possible to create in a modern theatre. It is an adaption for live stage performance, even while it strives to look and sound just like the famous film, in telling the story. There is more work for the SATB chorus and small vocal ensembles in the music material for the RSC version.  Little Dorothy Gale of Kansas, like so many girls her age, dreams of what lies over the rainbow. One day a twister hits her farm and carries her away over the rainbow to another world. Come join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion and Toto as they travel the universe of Dorothy's imagination. Includes the songs Over The Rainbow, Munchkinland (Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead), If I Only Had A Brain, If I Only Had A Heart, If I Only Had The Nerve , We're Off To See The Wizard (Follow The Yellow Brick Road), The Jitterbug, and The Merry Old Land of Oz, Poppies (Optimistic Voices) and If I Were King Of The Forest, and The Wicked Witch sings a Jazz version of the Jitterbug.

Can't wait to see this show!  Are you looking for the Wicked Witch of the West to be cast as a male?

HAHA, Ironic question, It indeed is/was an idea i was throwing around, I think a drag queen wicked witch would be quite entertaining. Although If i did cast that way i would want the man to play the witch as a women, not a obvious drag queen. A reason i would also choose to possibly not cast that way is there are already little to no women parts in the show, and the way shows are locally i'd be lucky to find enough men to fill the men roles...even less steal roles from women. But to answer that truthfully it is not off the table. Whoever wows me (it is my favorite role since i was 2  Wink)
I also tossed around only cast extremely tall people and children as Munchkins .... who knows... just gotta keep stuff fresh and original in my opinion. It truly is going to be a fun show.

You may want to jump on costume things now -- the Oz fest has disbanded, and the Yellow Brick Road will brick up its windows come January 1. Not sure how long those treasured resources will be accessable...

One more Thing!! The schedule will be Ultra light! This show is ideal for super busy people that love doing shows but have no time! Munchkins/flying monkeys will rehearse one day a week as if it is Girl/boy scouts type club on the same day and the same time until Tech. (which i believe Mandy and i decided were having two tech weeks btw) And the leads such as Scarecrow/Tinman/Lion will have to be there no more than two times a week and Ozians will have there own one night of rehearsal as well and Glinda and the Wicked Witch will have very little rehearsal requirements until closer to the show. (Glinda and the Wicked witch are both fabulous  roles but don't require a lot of blocking, although Glinda has an additional song "optimistic voices" and i am having a small "Over the rainbow" reprise for Glinda in the end before heel clicking and the Wicked Witch will sing the 1st verse of the  "Jitterbug" in a jazz fashion) Also This Schedule format will prevent my pet peeve of Having your time wasted sitting around waiting to be used and someone with a busy schedule can fit it in  happy2

Yes! The leads will rehearse the two days a week until tech weeks, eventually the leads will be needed every night to do full runs, but that will not be until the end of March. It's going to be a pretty Easy schedule. I wont add Dorothy to scenes like Munchkinland or Emerald city until long after the chorus has their Choreography down. Same for the other leads (The Wizard and witches will have it easiest)
