The Towle Theater is holding auditions for 2 paid acting positions in our original children's musical Pickle Chiffon Pie. Interested actors must be available during the day during the week as the show will tour to schools throughout northern Indiana, southwest Michigan and northeastern Illinois. DO NOT audition if you cannot commit to a flexable schedule over the next 8 months. The 50 minute educational, interactive show is a stage adaptation of Roger Bradfield's book by the same title and all the music is written by Evan Rea, Associate Conductor for Broadway in Chicago's Billy Elliot with lyrics by Shelley Crosby, Towle Director of Education.
Auditions will be held on Monday, September 20th from 10:30 - 3:30 at the Towle Theater 5205 Hohman Avenue, Hammond. Please email Shelley with questions or to schedule an appointment. shelleycrosby@mac.com Seeking: 1 female - age 18 - (youthful) 30 to play the princess. Should have a legit soprano range and a wholesome look, hair color doesn't matter, long hair preferred. 1 male - age 25 - 60 to play the King. This actor spends a considerable amount of time on his knees in a mobility contraption (think the king/prince character in Shrek, only much less sophisticated). Bari-tenor range. Both actors play multiple characters and are busy throughout the performance. Pay is $40 per performance. We have bookings for some shows already in October and January. The goal is to book as many as 100 performances during the 2010-2011 academic year. The show plays well to pre-K - 5th grade. As many as 4 shows per day could be booked, so decent earning potential. |

Grabbed from the paper today...not for me, but it may intererst others...
A huge, new haunted house, called Amhurst Asylum, is being designed by two people who have a combined 20 years of experience in haunted houses and horror movies. The 23,000-square-foot, all-indoor fright house will be open from 7 to 11 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays from Oct. 1 through 31 at the old Alvarez Arabians horse stables at 228 S. County Road 500 West. This is 4½ miles south of U.S. 30 on County Road 500 West. Organizers are trying to sign up 100 people who are at least of high school age to volunteer to be part of the production, with jobs including actors, technicians and security. Volunteers will get a chance to learn from professionals about acting, costumes, makeup and set design. People can e-mail nadia@amhurstasylum.com to get involved. They expect to draw 15,000 people nationwide who want to enjoy a terrifying 25-minute journey through 15 rooms. The cost will be $20, but discounts will be available to their Facebook friends and fans, and through their official website – www.amhurstasylum.com – which is set for launch this Wednesday. The experience is apparently somewhat scripted -- The story they tell is that crazy Dr. Amhurst once owned the haunted house land. The doctor's wife had a terrible illness, so Dr. Amhurst opened an asylum so he could harvest organs from the criminally insane and conduct experiments on them. The haunted house features a room where experiments are performed on victims, places where scary people pop out, a room where a real clown magically bounces around and, finally, a morgue and a place where bodies are incinerated. IF this sounds like your type of thing, go ahead and give the people a call... |

To all my theatre peeps:
A friend of mine, who I have known since high school (and some of you know how LONG ago that was), is very active in the greyhound rescue racket, I mean movement. Anywho, American Greyhound is holding their first-ever auction on Saturday, October 30th at Avalon Manor in Merrillville. My friend Susan asked me if I could sound out the local theatre groups about donating something, like tickets, I guess. The relevant web site is: www.americangreyhound.org and the pertinent info can be found there. Should you want to attend the event, the website also has the facts about tickets, etc. Thanks for listening. |

The Indiana Ghost Trackers are doing a Historical Walking Tour of Maplewood cemetery in Valparaiso, and need a few more people to round out the famous folks being portrayed. They are asking for just one afternoon of your time -- Sat Oct 2 for this fun event. IGT will provide the costumes and scripts- usually one page of dialogue, which could be read if you can cleverly "hide" it in a prop.
They still need people to portray the following:

Hi all....it's Darren.
I told the NIETF board that I would like to start phasing myself out of the webmaster position by the first of the new year. There is no drama at all, I just notice that I am not doing the web work with any enthusiasm anymore. So, I figure it is time to step aside and try to get someone who is still into doing web work and the emerging technologies that come with it. I have to say that the board has been great to me as a webmaster. I have had tons of support from them and they have allowed me to do whatever creative or necessary items that I wanted. I really want to thank them for that. I think I am just at the end of my web abilities. There are new things on the internet/web that I haven't kept up on. I am still trying to figure out some Facebook things to promote all of our information and Facebook keeps changing things and I am just not keeping up (for example). Anyway, if you are or know of anyone interested in doing web work for NIETF (or just has questions), please let me know. I will pass on info to the board. I would like to show someone the ropes and figured it would be better to start earlier than later. The next board meeting will probably be focused on the Gala and in October we do not meet and before you know it it the new year will be pouncing upon us. I think someone with more recent web skills and passion for internet trends will be able to really take us to the next level and promote all of us and our art in amazing ways. Thanks! Darren webmaster@nwindianatheatre.org P.S. I am still doing the NIETF web work so keep sending me your info! |
